GangaiKonda Cholapuram
Gangaikonda Cholapuram
It is one of the most important historical recordings. It was built by Rajendra Chola I, son of Rajaraja chola. Rajendra Chola I defeated the king of the town Ganges and brought stones using the slaves. Using those stones, Rajendra Chola I, built this Shiva temple, so that it is called as 'Gangaikonda Cholapuram'. It is said that there is a tunnel way to the Thanjore Temple from this Gangaikonda Cholapuram. It is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.
This 'Nandhi' i.e., Lord Shiva's vehicle is erected in front of all the Shiva's temple. In this Temple, this Nandhi is made up of calcium stones.
